Nurse to heal exodus?

Jon Nurse2-0 down at home to Chesterfield, the Daggers lurching towards the relegation zone, a comeback was seemingly vital. Up stepped Jon Nurse, latching onto a Strevens cut back, just 8 yards from goal. Surely this was 2-1 and a way back into the game? He swung his left boot at the ball and the crowd were already beginning to celebrate.

A fraction of a second later, Nursey is sitting on his arse facing away from goal. The ball is not in the net, it is not even in the penalty box. This gives you some idea of the season Jon enjoyed during 2007/08.

The Daggers miraculously escaped relegation with an amazing 3-2 win at Darlington in the penultimate match of the season. The integral Nurse blasted a massive 1 goal in 30 league matches as his contribution to survival.

Last season, Nursey unbelievably topped this feat with a huge 4 goals in 34 appearances. Many of these were as sub and he was used in a variety of positions including right-back and both wings, but we can ignore this for the purposes of poking fun.

This close season has seen the rumour mill go into overdrive. With Sam Saunders and Ben Strevens likely to leave, taking 27 league goals with them, it is vital that the Daggers come up with some quality replacements if they are to consolidate their position in the middle of League 2.

So Daggers fans will be rejoicing in the news that Nursey is to sign a new contract. John Still had this to say:

“Jon is invaluable to a club like ours as he can fill a number of positions.”

Jon can indeed fill a number of positions, such as substitute, water carrier, cone collector, and goalsco… oh no wait. We await another fabulous season from our Barbadian international star.
